BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK.
Bwindi impenetrable National is one the parks which keep gorillas in Uganda located close to Mgahinga national park. As its name ‘impenetrable’-only implies that is not quite accessible as Mgahinga, but a place worth considering on your itinerary. The Park was gazetted in 1991, covering over 331 square kilometres (128 square miles).
Bwindi ranges in attitude between 1,160 and 2,607 metres (3,805 and 8553 feet). The highland which the park consists of old (Precambrian). An interesting feature of Bwindi is mubwindi swamp which cover two square kilo metres. The Park also has an extensive stand of bamboo which covers about 6 square Kilometres.
Bwindi 120 plus species of mammals. Primates particularly abundant which include the mountain gorilla, chimpanzee, blue monkey, redtailed monkey, L’honest, black and white colobus, baboon patoo and needle-clawed galago.
Other animals present include; giant forest hog, bush pig, duiker, golden cat, side stripped jackal, civet, genet, clawnes otter and many species of rodents and bats.
Bird-lovers will take delight in the fact that some 346 species are found there, of 184 are typical forest species. Seven species are endangered list.
In addition, Bwindi impenetrable is home more than 14 species of snakes ,27 species of frogs and toad, chameleon, and geckos. You’re abound to notice the incredible variety of butterflies in the park. There majorly two ethnic groups close to Bwindi: The Bakiga and Bafumbira, both agriculturists.
MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
Mgahinga National Park is the smallest park nestled in the southwestern part of Uganda. At the extreme end south-western tip of Uganda on the borders of democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) andRwanda,33.7 square kilometres. Three extinct volcanic mountains lie within the park: Mount Muhavura, at 4,127 metres (13, 540 feet); mount Gahinga at 3,475 metres (11,400 feet); and 3,645 metres (11,598-foot) mount sabinyo whose peak lies in Rwanda and DRC. There three large swamps in the park as well: Rugezi, Kabiranyuma and Kazibakye
The Park is surrounded by two tribes: Batwa and Bafumbira people. Now agriculturist, the Batwa lived in forest as hunters and gathers more than 20,000 years ago. Both tribes grow crops such as Irish potatoes, beans, millet and rear livestock and livestock which includes cattle, goats, sheep and chicken.
